In an initiative to gain holistic development among students of partner schools, the Youth Committee of Tagum Cooperative, through the Youth Laboratory Cooperative, conducted a series of re-orientation and relaunch of the Youth Aflatoun Program to partner primary schools in Davao Del Norte, Davao De Oro, and Davao Del Sur from May to September 2024.

The initiative aims to reorient school youth  on  the  various  youth  products and services offered by Tagum Cooperative and promote Aflatoun advocacy. This is achieved through a financial literacy session, followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between school heads or coordinators and representatives from Tagum Cooperative.

The Youth Aflatoun Program is an innovative educational initiative that integrates balanced social and financial education for children. It emphasizes fostering social responsibility and financial literacy within the formal education system. By empowering young learners, the program equips them with the knowledge, skills, and values to become responsible citizens and financially capable individuals. Through engaging and interactive methods, children learn about the importance of managing resources, understanding financial concepts, and contributing positively to their communities, thereby nurturing a well-rounded approach to personal and social development.

Furthermore, the program offers children  access to  child-friendly savings accounts through a school-wide savings initiative managed by Tagum Cooperative. This initiative serves as a practical approach to instilling early financial habits, providing students with hands-on experience in managing their savings. It reflects Tagum Cooperative’s commitment to mainstreaming financial literacy within the youth sector, empowering the next generation to develop a strong foundation in financial responsibility from an early age.

Through this program, students not only learn the value of saving but also gain essential life skills that will support their financial well-being in the future.

In addition  to the  objectives  mentioned above,  the orientation  and  relaunching of the program are aimed at instilling a deeper appreciation and knowledge about youth products, reviewing the implementation of the product from its inception, determining strategies for improving the program and learning from the experiences of the schools in the program implementation.
