Tagum Cooperative is not merely a business enterprise focused on making profits but is one of the key stakeholders in the community. Thus, the cooperative ensures to give back and help those who are in need through the annual provisions for the Community Development Fund (CDF).
In the advent of this pandemic, cooperatives all across the globe have united and stand together to become Climate Action Warriors. This bold move is the embodiment of the 13th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) – Climate Action.
Thus, the Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU) spearheaded a Training of Trainors on Climate Action inviting the representatives from the different tertiary cooperatives and federations to take part in such noble cause. Likewise, the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO) has conducted its own Training of Trainors wherein coop leaders from the selected primary cooperatives volunteered to be stewards of the Green Coop Movement.
The training facilitated by NATCCO was held on October 12-14, 2020 attended by Dir. Evelia R. Sator and CECD Manager Regina Kate T. Boja. From the said training, participants were required to prepare an Action Plan on how to combat climate change in the entirety of Tagum Cooperative.
The said Action Plan includes the conduct of an exclusive webinar for Tagum Cooperative which aims to raise awareness on climate change issues and what are the green alternatives to lessen the carbon footprints that bring harm to the environment. This was held on January 14-15, 2021 actively participated by Tagum Coop Officers, Lecturers Group.
Moreover, the cooperative partnered with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) for the implementation of 4 training batches for Tagum Cooperative members held on January 18, 20, 25 and 27, 2021. Resource Speaker was Romulo D. Tagalo, PhD, PENRO Department Head of Davao Del Norte.
“Institutionalizing climate actions and educating members to build more realistic perception of climate risks and their vulnerabilities are essential,” Asian Confederation of Credit Union’s (ACCU) Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Elenita V. San Roque said.
Nevertheless, Tagum Cooperative commits to promote environmental friendly initiatives as we aim to go green!
