September signals the start of Christmas season in the Philippines and pupils from indigent public elementary schools have an extra reason to celebrate as Tagum Cooperative brings forth its Gasa Alang sa Eskwela.
3,800 sets of school supplies consist of notebooks, pencils, pads of papers, bags and uniforms for both female and male are being distributed to selected schools in different regions in Mindanao where Tagum Coop operates. Just recently, the children from Magwawa Integrated School in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte; Nasilaban Integrated School in Talaingod, Davao del Norte; Pandapan Integrated School in Tagum City, were graced with the said items that would aid them in their learning journey. The irreplaceable smiles of the children are what motivates Tagum Cooperative to share its blessings to the community in need especially in the far-flung areas.
Mr. Yuri Giovanni U. Colita, Principal of Nasilaban Integrated School gave his heartwarming message
during the turn-over of school supplies and uniforms last September 5. “We are so thankful that you’ve picked us as one of the beneficiaries of this program. Despite all the hardships experienced by these students walking every day without uniform, insufficient school supplies and lack of food. You are here to fill in the gap. Whatever you give today means a lot to the pupils and students of Nasilaban.” Principal Colita expressed.
In another occasion, Dir. Nenita R. Malbas, CPA, expressed that “giving back to those who cannot give back is Tagum Coop’s way of showing gratitude to the giver – the Almighty God, the source of everything.”
Gasa Alang sa Eskwela is in partnership with the Department of Education and one of the two programs of Tagum Cooperative in collaboration with the esteemed institution, the other being the Hot Lunch Plus which was launched on July of this year. These initiatives are in line with the 7th Cooperative Principle: Concern for Community.
