Tagum Cooperative is one of the seventeen (17) cooperatives that participated in the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO) Training of Trainers on Women on Climate Change and Action, held on January 25-27, 2023 at Estancia de Lorenzo, San Mateo, Rizal.
Various topics were presented, such as Introduction to Climate Change, Consequences on Women and Cooperatives, Climate Change Solutions and Roles of the Cooperatives, Cooperative Principles, Climate Action, and the Green Coop Program.
Tagum Cooperative was able to gain knowledge on how to address climate change and its effects on women and cooperatives. The cooperative learned how to develop and implement climate action plans in order to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable development. The cooperative also gained insights on how to promote the green cooperative program and how to use the cooperative principles to address climate change.
Board of Director Ms. Nenita R. Malbas, Board of Director Ms. Rosamaria S. Torrejano, Audit Committee Chairperson Ms. Gertrudes L Yap, CECD Manager Ms. Al Gee Omega C. Bula and CECD Training Officer Ms. Leslie S. Canuto, are the women leaders and cooperators who represent Tagum Cooperative to the training.
The activity was a success as it provided a platform for the participants to share their experiences and learn from each other. It created an avenue for the participants to be more aware of the effects of climate change and how to mitigate it and come up with a concrete plan to address climate change in their respective cooperatives.
It was also a great opportunity for the participants to network and build relationships with other cooperatives. This will help them to share best practices and collaborate in the future.
The following are the identified future moves of Tagum Cooperative on the climate-related initiatives: 1. Enhancing Solid Waste Management System: This will include collaboration with the local government in the implementation of proper waste segregation and disposal, as well as the use of more sustainable materials. 2. Earth Hour: The cooperative will organize an Earth Hour event in the community to raise awareness and encourage people to take action. 3. Climate Change Campaign: The cooperative will launch a climate change campaign through radio programs and social media platforms to educate the public about the effects of climate change and how to reduce their carbon footprint. 4. Webinars: The cooperative will host webinars to raise awareness. 5. Savings and loan products include solar savings, which allow the members to save money specifically for the purpose of investing in solar power energy, and loan products that include solar loans, which are designed to help customers finance their solar power energy investments.
The cooperative has taken it upon itself to make a difference by launching the Most Green Advocate Search, which is a campaign to recognize and reward individuals who are making a difference in their communities by taking action on climate change.
Tagum Cooperative with its members, officers, and employees all have a responsibility to help reduce the number of greenhouse gasses that are released into the atmosphere. Individuals can reduce their emissions by making small changes in their daily lives, such as using public transportation, eating less meat, and using energy-efficient appliances. By taking action, we can all help to reduce the effects of climate change and ensure a better future for generations to come.
