“I am not enough. I am a failure. I am not successful. I am unattractive.” These negative self-talk patterns often create a cycle of self-sabotage that prevents us from seeing the brighter side of life. In today’s chaotic and noisy world, cultivating a mindful perspective and practicing positive affirmations can be incredibly challenging. Many people find it easy to lose themselves in the crowd, overwhelmed by external pressures and struggling to maintain their mental well-being.

Recognizing these challenges, Tagum Cooperative remains committed to providing relevant services to its members. In line with this mission, sessions on Mental Health Awareness were designed to address the negative impacts of an unbalanced mind and body. These sessions were conducted last July 26 and August 2, 2024 respectively. It underscored the critical connection between mental and physical health, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach to overall well-being. As part of the initiative, teleconsultations were offered to help participants better understand this interplay, empowering them to embrace their sense of self and enhance their well-being through practical strategies and insights.

Led by Ms. Khristine Joy B. Garcia and Ms. Dhana Gail Valerio-Damag from Hiraya-Diwa Psychological Services, the sessions provided an in-depth exploration of the mind-body connection. Hiraya-Diwa, a Filipino-owned organization, specializes in counseling, psychotherapy, testing, and other psychological services, focusing on empathetic and person-centered care for those in need of mental health support.

The learning sessions emphasized the practical implications and benefits of achieving a balanced mind and body. Participants explored how their mental state could significantly impact their physical state and vice versa, and they were encouraged to adopt a proactive approach to achieve wellness—not just as a reaction to specific issues but as a transformative practice for long-term health and productivity. By focusing on actionable steps, individuals and organizations can create a culture of wellness that promotes overall well-being and resilience.

These sessions provided valuable insights into managing stress, building resilience, and maintaining overall health. By promoting a holistic approach, Tagum Cooperative aims to foster a community where both mental and physical well-being are prioritized for a healthier, more productive society.

As part of this initiative, the Psych Konsulta program offers Tagum Cooperative members an opportunity for further psychological support. To participate, members must attend a Mental Wellness webinar and complete an evaluation form, which was used for screening. Only thirty (30) individuals were selected for the psych consultation, scheduled based on their availability between August and October 2024. Participants have the option to decide whether or not they wish to join the consultation, which will be available over a three-month period.

Through these efforts, Tagum Cooperative continues to support its members in navigating the complexities of mental health, offering resources and opportunities to help them build healthier, more balanced lives. Cleve C. Ulalo
