In the heart of Mindanao, Tagum Cooperative (TC) has steadily grown with 31 branches and satellite offices established across regions. TC has recently expanded its reach even further, venturing into the Zamboanga Peninsula with the opening of a satellite office in the Municipality of Ipil.
A significant milestone for TC in extending financial services to underserved areas, thus encouraging financial inclusion. But with this bold stride in mind, the question arises: Is Tagum Cooperative ready to venture beyond the islands of Mindanao and set sail for Visayas?
Challenges lie ahead, particularly in overcoming the strong presence of well-established cooperatives and private lending institutions (PLIs) in Visayas. Offering competitive financial products is a must but fostering a deep understanding of the borrowing culture of different regions and adapting to diverse linguistic backgrounds are imperative.
Strategic branch placements in major cities such as Cebu, Dumaguete, and Iloilo will mark a strong entry into key economic hubs. However, this will demand cultural adaptability and localized approaches to reach the markets TC aims to serve. As part of the practices of the cooperative movement, TC aspires to expand outside Mindanao and bridge geographical gaps, bringing closer quality financial services to the people of Visayas.
