Strong partnership between the Department of Education and Tagum Cooperative becomes evident with the commencement of the annual Brigada Eskwela which evolved from a simple clean-up activity to a grand gathering of stakeholders from both private and public sectors.
Kick-off ceremonies on the 20th of May were spearheaded by Schools Division Superintendents together with their key personnel, partners, teachers, parents and students. Motorcades with colorful balloons and banners bring delight to residents of the localities. Showcasing of students’ talents and listening to pledges of commitment from partners highlighted the program.
Mr. Anwar E. Maadel, MPA, Brigada Eskwela Coordinator for DepEd Tagum City, emphasized that this year’s theme “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Paaralan” aims to make the schools safe and conducive for learning. On the other hand, Ms. Josephine L. Fadul, Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) of Davao del Norte, accentuated that Brigada Eskwela is not just a week-long but a year-long activity. She further added that the best investment is on the education of the children, who, in the future will become the young professionals and the leaders of the society.
In the afternoon, a Ceremonial Turn-Over of Donation Items was held thru the Education Committee and the Youth Committee of Tagum Cooperative. More than sixty (60) public elementary and secondary school recipients from the divisions of Tagum, Davao del Norte and Compostella Valley conveyed their sincere thanksgiving for the donations received.
Dir. Nenita R. Malbas then explained that Tagum Cooperative dutifully allocates a portion of its annual Net Surplus for the Community Development Fund (CDF). This fund is intended for various developmental initiatives benefitting the members and the community. She quoted further that more than half a million pesos’ worth of donation items has been distributed to all Tagum Coop Branches solely for Brigada Eskwela solicitations.
