Youth members bring pride to Tagum Cooperative as they snatched the First Prize award for Aflatoun Stories during the recently concluded Financial Education Leaders’ Congress held on October 10-12, 2018 at Mictrotel UP Technohub, Quezon City duly attended by social and financial education champions nationwide.
The highlight of the event is the Aflastories Video Making Contest that features the many Aflatoun activities of the Coops. The output must capture the various initiatives in a 3-minute creative video presentation. Six (6) coops from all over the country vied for the prestigious award where Tagum Coop impressively bagged 1st place followed by Sacred Heart Savings Coop in 2nd place and Iloilo City Public Schools SPED Multi-Purpose Cooperative for 3rd place.
The winning video was a collective effort of the TC Management Team in close collaboration with the TC Youth Lab. “I believe one of the reasons why we were able to get the first prize was because of the impact of our video. It showcases the impactful activities conducted by our very own TC Youth Lab since its inception,” states Mr. Revita.
Aflatoun is an arabic word which translates to “explorer” – a person who thinks, explores, investigates, and acts. This term is also related to Greek Philosopher Plato who is known for his ideas on ethics, citizenship, social justice,
respect, conservation, friendship, and love for fellowmen. The Aflatoun program concept was introduced in the country thru the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO) in partnership with Aflatoun Child Social and Financial Education Organization, formerly Child Savings International based in Amsterdam.
The Aflatoun Program is being implemented in partnership with the Department of Education whose Regional Directors, Schools Division Superintendents and other Officials are present during the aforementioned gathering. On the other hand, Tagum Coop was represented by BOD Chairperson Eduard C. Amoguis, Ethics Committee Chairperson Josephine L. Fadul, CEO Juris D. Perez and OIC Youth Program Officer Nikko C. Revita.
