Tagum Cooperative took a step towards ensuring the safety and security of its employees through the successful conduct of the Earthquake and Fire Drill Seminar on August 1, 2023 at the Tagum Cooperative Gymnasium.

The seminar initiative is said to enhance the disaster risk preparedness of Tagum Cooperative employees as well as the response skills of every employee in case of emergency. 

Setting the tone of the event was the opening remarks delivered by Chief Executive Officer Juris D. Perez, stressing the cooperative’s steadfast action in disaster management and the safety of its employees in the face of unpredictable events. She emphasized that safety is a collective responsibility and a duty never to be complacent.

Meanwhile, the Acting City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer of Tagum, Shiedon P. Isidro, expounded on the significance of earthquake preparedness, delving into the science behind seismic events and the vital steps to take during and after an earthquake. He cited real-life scenarios that caught the attention of the audience and imparted practical knowledge about safety precautions and how to save oneself during an earthquake. 

Moreover, the seminar transitioned to a series of fire safety presentations by a dynamic team of experts from the City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Tagum. Fire officers Jeston B. Ronquillo, Ralph Jay M. Banas, Rhey S. Junio, and Rey Albert O. Sastrado explained various facets of fire prevention, containment, and response. The speakers exemplified the importance of fire drills, extinguisher usage, and evacuation strategies through vivid anecdotes and engaging visuals.

In closing, Acting Chief Operating Officer Jerry D. Cabanisas delivered remarks on the essence of the seminar. Cabanisas praised the employees’ collaborative efforts and reiterated the organization’s dedication to safety culture. He underlined the seminar’s success in equipping attendees with essential life-saving skills and instilling unity and responsibility as critical tools to achieve the ultimate goal.
